San Miguel de Aralar

All about the church and the location. (more to come)

San Miguel de Aralar is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Navarra. The church is located about 45 min from Pamplona by car, most of the way up Mt Artxueta, part of the Sierra de Aralar, at 1232 m/4040 ft of elevation. It’s a simple, Romanesque church, but its altar is one of the finest examples of medieval Limoges enamel work that exists. The church was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. The views from the area around the church are breathtaking – you can see Pamplona, the Pyrenees and immediately opposite, the Urbasa plateau.

The church has a detailed website for those who read Spanish: http://www.aralarkosanmigel.info/cas/index.php

Check out the Navarra tourism website for some key information in English: http://www.turismo.navarra.es/eng/organice-viaje/recurso.aspx?o=3062&masInf=1

Next to the church is a small café and rest area. There is ample parking.
